The Plan

Please let me take this opportunity to introduce you to Amateur Radio Expo 2007 which will be held inside the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds during the weekends of the Fair beginning Friday, September 7 and ending on Sunday, September 30.

When we were first approached about this project by the Los Angeles County Fair Organizers they were looking for something that was community service oriented and interactive with Fair Guests to fill up some of the outside exhibit space that has been largely under utilized. Because of the scope and size of the space they are willing to give us (sixteen full booth spaces ) we saw a unique opportunity to showcase Ham Radio in all its aspects (or as many of them as we can) in one place to a hugely diversified group of patrons. Essentially, what we are doing is having an Expo within the Fair.

To this end we have been soliciting help from clubs, groups, and individuals to provide information and interaction on any aspect of Amateur Radio that we can. Some of the booths will be club oriented with information and opportunities to recruit new members, we will also have different types of radios set up to offer the ability to showcase the dx, contesting, and voice communications, we will have groups who will show and tell about emergency communications and ham radio's role, and we are offering what we are calling "THE WIDGET FACTORY" to show and tell about home brew learning about electronics (we plan on having several snap circuit kits along with some crystal radio kits for people to try to build things out of), there will be informational booths concerning the different types of antennas and why you might pick one type over another, and we will fill in with satellite, atv, aprs, t-hunting, microwave, and EME as we can get the people with time and energy to show off what they like to do the best.

The way that the Expo is set up to run, there is an opportunity for anyone interested in any aspect of Amateur Radio to learn and interact with some portion of the exhibit. That way we get the maximum exposure to a cross section of people who hopefully will get interested in supporting some part of Amateur Radio.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you at the Amateur Radio Expo 2007.
